Course Title: Fundamentals of Ayurveda Training for a Yoga Practice
Ayurveda is the art of daily living, a lifestyle of flowing in harmony with the laws of nature. A science of life and longevity. The objectives are to maintain the health of a healthy person and to heal an unhealthy person, with both healings carried out in natural ways. A sister science to yoga, Ayurveda complements a yoga lifestyle.
Course Manual: The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies by Vasant Lad, B.A.M.S.
Course Difficulty Level: Open to all: beginner/entry level. for personal use.
Course Description: Learn how the fluctuations of Vata, Pitta and Kapha Doshas help or hinder the healing process based on your own constitution of them, both mentally and physiologically. Learn how to stay healthy by cultivating a lifestyle tuned in to nature by using yoga poses, breath work, mediation, dietary guideline and home cleansing from an Ayurvedic perspective.
This course covers:
The Science of Life, discover your constitutional type and Ayurveda theory for why we get sick How to stay healthy by an Ayurveda and yoga lifestyle.
How to put together Ayurveda and yoga with breath work, guided meditations and yoga poses, dietary guidelines and indications and contraindication modifications
Healing properties of home remedies. Home cleaning with pancha karma.
How to put Ayurveda and Yoga to work the bring harmony into your life.
Course Outline for the 4 months training, 4 Parts:
Students will be given a course material and syllabus on the first day of class.
Part 1 Review course outline and homework requirements. Discuss Ayurveda: The Science of Life discover your constitutional type and Ayurveda theory for why we get sick how to stay healthy by an Ayurveda and yoga lifestyle.
Homework: Create a daily 15 Min. Ayurveda and Yoga routine. Read Chapters 1, -5. Write up a brief description of each Chapter. All work must be handed in at next class.
Part 2 Review homework. Discuss how to put together Ayurveda and yoga with breath work, guided meditations and yoga poses, dietary guidelines and indications and contraindication modifications.
Homework: Read Chapters 6-8 and Appendix 4. Write up a brief description of each chapter or Appendix. Design a 10min practice of breath work, mediation and yoga poses for each of the doshas. All work must be handed in at next class.
Part 3 Review homework. Discuss Healing properties of home remedies. Home cleaning with pancha karma.Homework: Read Appendix 1,2 and 3. Do a simple home cleanse. Keep log in, Write up a brief description for each appendix and your cleaning experience.
Part 4 Review homework. Communicate their knowledge of Fundamentals of Ayurveda with Yoga by a taking a quiz. Review quiz and address any questions or concerns.
5 Month Reiki I & II Training
Course Title: Level Reiki 1 and 2 and Meditation Facilitator Training
Benefits of Reiki include stress reduction, deepening of relationships with Self and others, and balances the fluctuations of the body’s energies through the chakras to create a better sense of well being.
Course Manuals: Reiki: The Healing Touch, First and Second Degree Manual by William Lee Rand and Yoga Impact Meditation Facilitator Training Manual by Nancy Candia, E-RYT500.
Course Difficulty Level: Open to all: beginner/entry level. No experience necessary, for personal use, Education and Professional practice.
Course Description: Reiki and Mindful meditation are practices that form communication with our highest energies and as a skill used to relax and quiet the mind body and soul. A consistent Reiki and mindful meditation practice can be useful to gain insight into our thoughts and how we respond to the world around us. With these trainings, trainees will learn to give a full lengthen reiki session and create and lead mindful meditation groups in institutions and informal community settings. By experiencing, learning then giving and teaching these techniques, trainees will have the confidence and skill to practice and administer Reiki and Mindful Mediation.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives:
Students will demonstrate understanding of Reiki/Mindful Meditation and the relationship to Self.
Students will experience Reiki/Mindful Meditation by guided exercises, inquiry and conversation,
Students will experience Reiki/ Mindful Meditation exercises
Students will demonstrate how use Reiki/Mindful Meditation exercises
Students will demonstrate the indications and contraindications for the types of Reiki/Meditation techniques.
Students will learn and evaluate the client’s needs and problems that occur through inquiry, conversation, bodily observation.
Students will provide feedback for group’s confirmation and ask questions for clarification.
Students will identify the corresponding fluctuations of the Charkas as it relates to Reiki.
Learn about the science that supports health benefits
Students will discuss the group’s needs and problems by inquiry, conversation and bodily observation.
Students will demonstrate the types of room set ups and their uses
Students will describe set up for Reiki/Meditation.
Students will list equipment and supplies needed.
Students will communicate their knowledge of the Reiki/Mindful Meditation
Students will participate in class discussions, small group work and pass a quiz.
Students will perform Reiki/Mindful Meditation.
Students will practice Reiki/Mindful Meditation with themselves daily.
Students will present through demonstration, the application of Reiki/Mindful Meditation on classmates.
Students will give instructor a full Reiki session.
Students will lead a small Mindful Meditation Group at least 5 times.
Course Outline for the 5 months training, 6 Parts:
Students will be given a course material and syllabus on the first day of class.
Part 1 Review course outline and homework requirements. Introduction to Reiki and it history. Receive Reiki1 attunement. How to administer a Self-Reiki session. Reiki Homework: Create a daily 10 Min. Personal Practice of Self Reiki. Read Part – chapter 1,2 and 3 and Chapters 7 and 8 of Reiki manual. Write up a brief description of each chapter. All work must be handed in at next class.
Part 2 Review homework and Reiki experiences. Receive Reiki 2 attunement. Learn Reiki Symbols. Talk about Reiki and Mindful Meditation exercises. Discuss the difference of Reiki 1 and 2 levels. Discuss Indications and contraindications. Room set-up. Experience guided Reiki/Mindful Meditation Exercises.
Reiki Homework: Read Chapters 4,5 and 6. Write up a brief description of each chapter. All work must be handed in at next class.
Meditation Homework: Add a daily 5 Min. Personal mediation Practice in addition to Self-Reiki. Keep a login. Read and practice the first 5 lesson plans in manual for 1 hour each. Write up a brief description of each chapter. All work must be handed in at next class.
Part 3 Review homework. Discuss Reiki healing techniques, hand on work with classmates.
Reiki Homework: Read Chapters 9 and 10. Give a Reiki session (10-minute min.) to at least 5 people. Keep a log in. Write up a brief description of each chapter and each Reiki session given.
Meditation Homework: Read and practice the last 5 lesson plans in manual for 1 hour each. Keep a login. Write up a brief description of each Mindful Meditation lesson plan experience. Write a 3 min meditation. All work must be handed in at next class.
Part 4 Review homework. Introduction to the charkas. Discuss how to form a small Mindful Meditation Group. Each Student will lead a 3-minute Mindful Meditation with the class.
Reiki Homework: Read Chapters 11 and 12, write a brief description of each chapter. Review Charkas handouts.
Meditation Homework: Write up 5- 30 Min Mindful Meditation lesson plans and teach a small Mindful Meditation Group at least 5 times. Write up a brief description of the teaching experience. Lesson plans and write up must be handed in at next class.
Part 5 Review homework. Discuss the business of having a reiki practice and teaching mediation classes. Practice Reiki on classmates.
Reiki Homework: set up appointment to give teacher a full Reiki session.
Part 6 Check that all homework was summited. Communicate their knowledge of Reiki/Mindful Meditation by a taking a quiz. Review quiz and address any questions or concerns.
V. Student Assessment Method
Students will be evaluated throughout the course using teacher observation, oral responses and written descriptions and a quiz.
VI. Teaching Strategies
Interactive power points, demonstration, participation in hands on work, class participation and group interaction.
